Introduction

COLD WAR 寒战was a phenomenal box office success in Asia and internationally, achieving over US$50 million worldwide. The storyline this time will be even more elaborate and adrenaline-packed, as it involves the entire Hong Kong police force and the judiciary. The two notable directors Longman Leung 梁乐民 and Sunny Luk 陆剑青 spent four years planning the script and production for the sequel in order to produce yet another gripping film for audiences. Department also volunteered assistance to the development and production of the film.

Much hype surrounds the sequel, not only because the first film ended on a cliffhanger, but also because of the addition of Chow Yun Fat’s role. The showdown between the three veteran actors Chow Yun Fat, Aaron Kwok and Tony Leung Ka Fai is highly anticipated.Synopsis

“Cold War”, the codename for the rescue operation of the five kidnapped police officers, is deemed a partial success. Despite the political outcry, the risky rescue led by Acting Police Commissioner Sean Lau (Aaron Kwok) gains him promotion to the highest rank in the police force, yet causes Deputy Police Commissioner Waise Lee (Tony Leung Ka Fai) his reputable career. Joe Lee (Eddie Peng), son of Waise and the sole suspect of the kidnapping, is captured and taken into custody. The case remains an unsolved mystery, and Sean is hell-bent on uncovering the details.

Sean’s family gets in the crossfire, forcing him to make the toughest decision of his life: exchange Joe’s freedom for his family’s safety. With his career now on the line, Sean faces an impeachment proceeding that includes Osward Kan (Chow Yun Fat), an influential senior counsel and an independent member of the judicial council. He becomes the key figure in determining Sean’s fate, and it is unknown whether he is friend or foe. Sean’s adversaries within the police force, in an attempt to bring down his career, are desperate to get Osward on their side. With enemies moving from the street and into the political arena, the real kingpin, who has been lurking in the dark all along, is slowly bringing his masterplan into play.

The multi talented Aaron Kwok has been a prominent name in the Asia entertainment world since the 90s. Kwok began his acting career in the late 80s with television series like RISE OF GENGHIS KHAN and TWILIGHT OF A NATION. In 2006, Kwok became the second in the history of the Golden Horse Awards to consecutively win the Best Actor, which he took for DIVERGENCE(2005) and AFTER THIS OUR EXILE (2006). His notable credits includes STORM RAIDERS(2009), COLD WAR(2012), THE MONKEY KING(2014), MONK COMES DOWN THE MOUNTAIN(2015), the critical acclaimed PORT OF THE CALL(2015), in which he was nominated for BEST ACTOR at the Golden Horse Awards, and THE MONKEY KING 2(2016). 

Chow Yun Fat

Screen icon Chow Yun Fat has appeared in over 120 films, with memorable roles in films like A BETTER TOMORROW (1986), GOD OF GAMBLERS (1989), HARD BOILED (1992), ANNA AND THE KING (1999), CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON (2000), and PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD’S END (2007). A three-time Hong Kong Film Awards winner, his recent film FROM VEGAS TO MACAU II (2015) was a massive hit, grossing nearly RMB 1billion at the China box office. He was recently seen in Johnnie To’s critically acclaimed musical OFFICE (2015) and FROM VEGAS TO MACAU III (2016).

Eddie Peng One of the most sought-after young actors in Asia, Eddie Peng‘s acting career took off instantly with his breakout debut in the television series THE WHITE PAPER OF LOVE in 2002. He has since been cast in a series of acclaimed films such as HEAR ME (2009), JUMP ASHIN! (2011, nominated Best Actor at Golden Horse Awards), LOVE (2012), TAI CHI 0 and TAI CHI HERO (2012), COLD WARS (2012), UNBEATABLE (2013, nominated for Best Supporting Actor at Golden Horse Awards), RISE OF THE LEGEND (2014, nominated for Best Actor at Hong Kong Film Awards), FLEET OF TIME (2014), TO THE FORE (2015), and THE BODYGUARD (2016).

Elizabeth - It was already passed 3am as I am typing these, really enjoyed the show a lot! It is indeed way better than Cold War 1! If you have not watched Cold War 1, there is still time to catch it before the 8th! Really love the professional Star's acting skills, OMG, every single detail is so AWESOME! It was a really enjoyable event for me to see my childhood idol(Aaron) & all time idol(Chow) this close! I was tearing with joy when I first saw them T.T Had to remove my lens for fear of makeup get in my eye(previously teared) = infections + to enjoy the movie perfectly with my perfect eyesight! No moment to be missed~
