'Oshin' by Encore Films

Synopsis

The story of Oshin is set in the Meiji period and revolves around the young daughter of a poor family in Yamagata Prefecture, who’s sent away at the age of 7 to work for a living.

The overarching theme of perseverance in hardship became a trademark characteristic of Oshin, which made the original series incredibly popular throughout Asia and the world. Even in Singapore, many viewers were captivated by the show.

The original drama spanned most of Oshin’s life, but the new movie will mainly focus on her childhood.

Oshin Tanimura (played by child actress Kokone Hamada), Fuji Tanimura (played by Aya Ueto) and Senzo Tanimura (played by Goro Inagaki of SMAP) give stellar performances in the film.

Review - When i talked to few people about Oshin, i am surprised that the youth nowadays actually have no idea who ;o Its such a shame that such a legendary hit that touched the world is unknown @_@ I have long heard of the name Oshin since i was a kid from TV and all. The muscial piece is also very nice and always enter the show at the most appropriate timing. I was very much touched by this movie and teared a few times. The life of a women is deemed as to always working for her husband, family and children, especially in Japan... It does makes a lot of senses... When u are born in such poverty, its very saddening to see young children having the need to work as live in slaves, babies are even sold, as the family could not afford to feed another :'( This show also reminded me that in life, it matters who and what kind of people u get to meet, they DO make some differences! Do catch it should u not win this pair of tickets! Its really awesome~
